This Morning Routine Will Improve Your Mood

Be Intentional.

Start small. Pick a day of the week and start with something that interests YOU! Not what others are doing. You can start by expressing what you want to feel a week or a month from now.  For example, I want to meditate every morning, as soon as I wake up. I chose Monday, and I set my alarm 10-20 minutes earlier than usual. I keep my yoga mat under my bed so I can literally roll out of bed and continue with my eyes closed. I read that the best time to meditate is when you’re in alpha mode, which is first thing upon waking up.

I discovered that I enjoy listening to lo-fi music at a low volume and using a mudra (hand gesture) to maintain my focus. I bought an alarm clock that plays a sound when touched, so I don’t reach for my phone, and it also gives off a soft light. I’ve memorized a few affirmations, and I repeat them three times before sitting in silence.

Sometimes I don’t make it the entire 10-20 minutes, but sometimes I do. And sometimes I stretch my body lightly right before I jump back in bed and cuddle with my doggy before drinking a glass of water, brushing my teeth, and going for a mile walk with my dog. Then I make my coffee, sit on the chair facing my plants, and take a couple of sips before starting my day. I've noticed that my days are smoother; I don’t rush, and I’m in a happy mood as I move through my days.

Try my routine, replacing it with things that apply to you, and reflect at the end of the week. Check in with yourself, adjust as needed, but don’t give up if it’s something you want to implement! Let me know what you try <3
